Cultural traditions provide the roots to keep us grounded in our indigenous past to help guide us into the future. Our values, traditions, and ancient practices help guide us to our center to strengthen and reaffirm our identities. The wisdom of these traditions requires knowledge, understanding, and practice to be kept alive.
When we integrate this living wisdom with the best of the new ways, we can reach our fullest potential as members of our tribes and local communities, as well as global citizens of the world. Within this our Culture Pathways we operate the following programs:
TRADITIONAL SKILLS PROGRAM
Our Traditional Skills Program includes the following activities: Fire by friction, making shelters, flint knapping, leather making, medicines, bird language, tracking, and basketry.
For our Language Program, we have teamed up in partnership with the Hupa iL Tuq Language Center, who’s mission to protect, revive and help thrive, the xoji Hupa language, culture and values. The goals of the iL Tuq are to document and preserve for posterity the xoji Hupa language; to increase the number of speakers of all ages, to foster an understanding of the cultural philosophy and values behind the language. The iL Tuq Language Center is located on the same property as our Native Suns educational farm.
Our Arts Program strives to incorporate arts into our curriculum, activities, and facilities. Creative artistic expression is a cornerstone for balanced living, and allows for a unique type of communication and empowerment. Our Arts Program is currently in development.
